AA Eastern League: Binghamton 9/12/1 @ New Hampshire 1/6/1

Darin Gorski started for the Mets and was superb, giving up an UER on 4 hits in 6 innings with 10 strikeouts for his first win of 2014. Adam Kolarek worked 2 scoreless innings to wrap the game up. Kyle Johnson, Darrell Ceciliani and Matt Reynolds (3) had multi hit games. Dustin Lawley smacked his first homer of 2014, a 2 run shot in the 2nd to get the Mets off and slugging. Half of Binghamton’s hits went for extra bases.

Gorski has mastered AA, and at this point, should be promoted to AAA and given a shot to see what he is at the higher level. Jeff Paternostro (@JeffPaternostro) was at the game and had Gorski between 86 and 89 on his fastball, 3 or so ticks below where he was when he broke out in 2011. 86-89 likely doesn’t play in the majors as a starter, but there may be a reliever in there. On a related note, Jack Leathersich needs to be in AAA, as well, he’s got AA down as well. Needs to learn to pitch, not strike out 19 per 9 in AA with a pretty ERA/FIP.

A+ Florida State League: St. Lucie 13/20/2 @ Jupiter 3/8/2

The Mets scored early and often in obliterating the Hammerheads tonight, putting up 2 in the first and the knockout blow, a 6 run 2nd. Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo, Aderlin Rodriguez, TJ Rivera (4) had multi hit games. Gabriel Ynoa started slow, but ended up with a fantastic outing, striking out 5 in 6 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits and 2 walks. Jake Kuebler pitched the final 3 innings for the save, despite allowing 4 hits and 2 unearned runs.

The Gnats hammered out 15 hits and 12 runs on their way to a laugher of their own, winning comfortably 12-5. Gavin Cecchini, Jared King and Patrick Biondi (3) had multi hit games. Miller Diaz and Rob Whalen split the first 8 innings evenly, Diaz allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, Whalen allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks to notch the win.
