Zack Wheeler was magnificant over 6 innings, allowing just a run on 3 hits while striking out 6, seemingly getting stronger as the game continued, he struck out a pair in each of his final two innings. Wheeler was mostly 97s and 98s in the first inning, before settling in at 92-96 throughout the night, touching 97 and 98 when he needed it. He showed off a power slider to get strikeouts, and sprinkled in curveballs and changeups, to varying degrees of (in)effectiveness. Offensively, he contributed with a long double to center field (just missing a solo home run) and scored on Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ 2 run shot, all the offense he needed. David Aardsma nailed it down with a 123 9th, striking out a pair.
