Domingo Tapia had another poor outing tonight, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings, though on the plus side, he struck out 6 and generated 7 groundouts. Tapia is in a major rut pitching wise, having allowed 11 runs in his last 3 starts, spanning 15.1 innings, walking 10 in that stretch. The Mets put up 3 in the bottom of the 8th to snap a 4-4 tie. Tim Byrdak nailed down the win with a perfect 9th for the save. Kevin Plawecki had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and drove home 3. Dustin Lawley also had a multi hit game, including his 16th homer of the year.

Gabriel Ynoa had another very strong outing, giving up a run on 5 hits while striking out 4 in 6 innings for his 9th win of the season. Ynoa now has a 9/67 BB/K in 80.2 innings. At age 20. Nine walks. In 80.2 innings. Yeah. He has not walked a batter in his last 5 starts, spanning 35 innings, which is a fresh streak, since he walked the final batter he faced on May 20th. Offensively, Brandon Nimmo was 0 for 5 with 2 more strikeouts, and is 22 for his last 97 with 35 strikeouts in that span (all since coming off the DL).

Rob Whalen had a second straight outstanding outing, today giving up a run on 4 hits (remember, his first start, his defense betrayed him, committing 3 errors leading to 4 UER off him). In his first two starts, spanning 11.1 innings, he’s rocking a 1/14 BB/K. Tyler Bashlor, who the Mets gave a $550k bonus to in the 11th round this year, gave up a walk and walkoff 2 run homer without recording an out, his ERA is infinity.
