A South Atlantic League: Savannah 2/2/0 vs Hagerstown 0/6/0

Behind the dominant left arm of Steven Matz, the Savannah Sand Gnats won the 2013 South Atlantic League title tonight, ending a 17 year title drought and bringing some redemption to what was otherwise a putrid 2013 playoffs for the Mets organization. Matz struck out 9 over 5.2 innings and allowed 4 hits (2 of the infield variety), while also walking a pair. In 12.2 postseason innings, Matz did not allow a run and struck out 18. Wow.

Stefan Sabol’s, 2 run double in the 4th was all the scoring, and it was enough for Matz, Paul Sewald, a rehabbing Jeurys Familia, and Savannah closer Beck Wheeler, who allowed a one out double, but struck out a pair to leave him stranded.
